Have you seen our Events page?  It's a lovely community calendar created with Tockify.  To announce your next gathering, click "Submit Event" and fill in the details.

Upcoming events this week include a Scholastic Holiday Warehouse Book Sale in Duluth and a Homeowners' Workshop on How to Save Money on Water.  That second one will really save you some money.  Sharon Swanepoel, publisher of Monroe Local News, went to a similar workshop in Walton County, got the free kits, installed them, and has saved loads of money on her water bill.  Of course, your results may vary but the workshop might be well worth your time. Just register first so they can have a kit ready for you.

Let us hear about your next event!

Do you know this shopper?  "Person of interest" in arson at Centerville Walmart

Security camera footage shows this individual in the gray hoodie entering Centerville's Walmart Sunday evening before a fire broke out, leading to flame and smoke damage, and the evacuation of the store.  Fire officials said in a press release this morning, "We are not calling him a suspect at this point, but believe that he may have seen something that could be helpful in solving the case."

The fire was set in a rack of clothing near the men's section in the middle of the building. Employees moved quickly with extinguishers to douse the blaze while also getting shoppers and crew members to safety.  Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge commended store employees for their quick response, saying, "The staff did a good job of getting everyone out safe and with helping to contain the fire".

No one was hurt, and the fire did not get beyond the area where it started.  However, smoke spread to a larger area and was the cause of most of the damage within the store.

If you have information on the cause of this fire, or know this person of interest, please contact the Gwinnett Fire Investigation Section at 678.518.4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hot Line at 1.800.282.5804.  A reward is offered by Georgia Arson Control for information leading to the arrest and conviction of someone responsible for arson, which is a felony.

Stuff you should know about Stuff You Should Know About Stuff

We told you last month about Tripp and Tyler's new book Stuff You Should Know About Stuff: How to Properly Behave in Certain Situations. We've since gotten a preview copy and have tips for future readers of this compelling page turner/coaster.
You need two copies of this book in your house, especially during the holidays. One goes in the bathroom, and not just because it has urinals on the cover. This is prime bathroom reading. Its conversational tone will appeal to extroverts and might keep your Uncle Bubba out of the living room for a few blissful bonus minutes.

The second book goes on your coffee table as a welcome distraction for introverts wanting to avoid political soundbite volleys and the annual post-meal belching competition. But for the sake of your sweet nana, you might want to conceal the cover of this copy. Any 8x10 sheet of paper will fit, though it'll be a bit awkward. Like Nana's encounter with pages 64-65, “You're Doing Email Wrong.”

The book has a pronouns issue. Some tips are first-person, but the person doesn't say whether they're Tripp or Tyler. If you follow these two on YouTube, you know they're pretty much the same guy, different heights, so don't worry about it. You're a grammar nerd on a toilet. What are you gonna do?

SPOILER: Neil from accounting. It's always Neil from accounting. Poor Neil.

Friends will begin to see you as a guru after you read this book. You'll know what to do with things like those pesky phone books, and shirts shot out of a canon.

Ignore the chapter on Twitter rules. The tone is too serious and the rules way too specific to be anything other than a passive aggressive list for @AccountingNeil.

Now you know what to take to the office gift swap. White Elephant, Secret Santa, random dude who got you something and you weren't expecting that – you're covered. Keep a few wrapped copies in your desk and in your car. Golden.

Enjoy your new life as a genius. To get you started, here's Tripp and Tyler's Phone Tips, taken from Stuff You Should Know About Stuff.
